  1. Doug Stevenson

Jane Atkinson is one of the top business consultants for speakers who want to grow their business or for people just getting into the speaking business. I hired her to take the lessons I learned about focusing my message and my brand from the book and to customize them to my business, which is corporate storytelling for business presentations.

In the book she asks you to imagine a day in your life five years from now. That got me thinking. She challenges you to discover what subject you an expert in, not just a topic you can speak about to make some quick cash.

This book is easy to read, has some great stories and a most importantly, contains exercises you must complete to get focused. Think of it as a motivational workbook that will get you excited about building your speaking business while making strategic decisions about how to move forward. You just can’t find this kind of wisdom anywhere else. Doug Stevenson’s Story Theater Method (previously titled: Never Be Boring Again)

Jane Atkinson is the ‘Real Deal’! Her book ‘The Wealthy Speaker 2.0’ gives the best advice and it is spot on! Anyone wanting to break into speaking needs this book. There are many, many real life examples that will help any speaker position themselves for success. I will use and recommend this book.

One of the best things about Jane Atkinson’s book is that it doesn’t “guarantee” a luxury jet setting lifestyle… Instead, she outlines a plan of hard work, initiative, and self discipline that may possibly lead to making a living as a paid public speaker. Too many self improvement and career advice books in this field make pie-in-the-sky promises that are nothing but fluff. Instead, Ms. Atkinson shares decades of experience as a behind the scenes booker and agent in the speaking industry. My wife and I have both been paid to speak in the past, and decided to make 2013 the year that we formalize our efforts and make it a career. This is the most down to earth, and practical book on the subject we’ve found. The 2.0 version included updated anecdotes, Internet tips and social networking guidance. The only reason it is not rated 5 stars is because the author does not include the valuable info that most aspiring speakers want to know -exactly who to contact for bookings – instead there are general guidelines about communicating with event planners. Ms. Atkinson offers personal and group coaching, and we plan on taking her up on her offer.
